Generation Wired. In the '90s, Generation X finally comes of age but they face an identity crisis. For some the decade is all about coffee and Friends. Where good friends are the new family and New York City is a place without real crime, or conflict - something that would have been impossible to imagine earlier in the decade or in the decade that follows. This movement is powered by coffee, as Starbucks doesn't just change our taste but where we hang out, creating a 'third space'; somewhere that is neither the traditional workplace nor the traditional home - opening five stores a week for the next decade. But for others, on the other side of America, a new movement in fashion and music burns with radicalism, authenticity and plaid...grunge. Nirvana sets out to change the world, until Kurt Cobain begins to self-destruct and becomes a martyr to authenticity. Meanwhile another messiah is about to attempt a comeback from his own ordeals in the wilderness. Steve Jobs would become the icon of the '90s and herald the dawn of a new age. The Mac. The internet. The coffeehouse. All that was missing was a way to tie them all together. When Wi-Fi starts appearing in coffee shops, the nation gets connected and Generation Wired emerges.
